Instead of using your own driver’s license to register your vehicle in Ontario, you’ll need to request a Registrant Identification Number (RIN) for your corporation or business.
To get a RIN number for your business, you'll need to do the following:
Ensure that your business is legally registered |
Before you can request a RIN, you must ensure that your business is legally registered with the government of Ontario.
This typically involves registering with the Ministry of Government Services and obtaining a Business Number. |
Gather the necessary information |
To request a RIN, you’ll need to provide the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) with certain information about your business, such as: its legal name, address, and Business Number. You may also need to provide additional documentation, such as your Articles of Incorporation or a business registration certificate.
You'll also be required to submit a notarized Registrant Identification Number (RIN) Sworn Letter. It's important to remember that this is a letter, not a form, so it'll need to be drafted specifically for your business. With NotaryPro's online service, you can get this letter drafted for FREE and only need to pay a small fee to have it notarized - all fully digitally. |
Complete & submit your application to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) |
Once you have the necessary information, you can call the MTO’s customer service line, or visit a ServiceOntario centre in person.
They will provide you with an application form that you’ll need to fill out and submit, along with your RIN Sworn Letter and other requested documents.
This process can take several days to several weeks, depending on the volume of requests the MTO is processing. |
