This is a great question! These are perhaps two of the most important and significant documents many people will sign in their lifetime. We at Notary Pro understand the amount of trust you are putting in us to ensure your documents are signed and notarized correctly the first time. Here is some more information on how you can get these important documents completed before being notarized by a Notary Pro!
Power of Attorney:
To have a power of attorney completed, many people choose to retain the services of a Lawyer, which is a great option for many, depending on your circumstances. If you would prefer, the Ontario government provides a complimentary Power of Attorney template and we can help you complete the government template via our secure web portal free of charge. This template is available for both an Ontario Power of Attorney for care or for property. Want to get started? Simply visit us at https://www.notarypro.ca/legal-templates/free-power-of-attorney-drafted-for-you/ for more information and to complete the government template.
Last Will and Testament
Many people also choose to retain a lawyer to assist them with drafting their Last Will and Testament and that is also a great option for many people. If you would prefer to write a Will yourself, you can certainly do so and we have a couple of partners such as Wilful and Canadian Legal Wills that would be happy to give you a hand. You can check out the this link https://www.notarypro.ca/legal-templates/custom-last-will-testament-drafting/ if you would like to read more about how our partners can assist you in drafting your Last Will and Testament.
Ready to have your document notarized?
Once you are ready to have your Power of Attorney or Last Will and Testament notarized, we would be happy to help. We have two services that can notarize these documents. You can book an appointment to come into one of our offices with any additional witnesses to sign your document and have it notarized, you can quickly and conveniently find an in person Notary and book your appointment at https://www.notarypro.ca/find-a-notary/.
Another great option to sign and notarize these documents is our Virtual Witnessing Service which can be booked at https://www.notarypro.ca/notary-public-services/virtual-wills-poa/. With this service, you and any additional witnesses (besides the Notary) would sign a physical / printed copy of your Will or Power of Attorney using "wet ink". The Notary would then do the same on their copy (also called a "counter copy") before adding their embossed Notarial seal and a stamp explaining how the document was notarized and citing the statutory authority that allows virtual witnessing in Ontario. We will mail you our original "counter copy" to keep with the copy you signed and together they would form a complete and fully executed document.
Questions? Feel free to send us an e-mail to support@notarypro.ca and we would be happy to answer any questions you might have.
