For our notaries to properly identify an individual signing a document, NotaryPro require specific forms of valid identification. The identity document must have been issued by a federal, provincial, territorial or state government authority and cannot be expired.
To be accepted, your valid identity document must include your:
- name
- date of birth
- photo
- signature (not mandatory)
Other considerations of a valid identification
- All identification documents should contain Latin characters, or be able easily identify the individuals full name when comparing it to any specific document to be notarized.
- Expired documents are not acceptable with the exception of an Ontario driver’s licence or Ontario enhanced driver’s licence that has been expired for less than one year.
- All documents must be originals. Photocopies are not considered acceptable nor valid.
Forms of Acceptable Valid ID Include:
- Canadian or foreign passport
- Canadian or foreign driver's license
- Canadian military identification card
- ID card issued by the federal government, or a provincial or territorial government, or the equivalent abroad
- Government-issued enhanced identification card
- Provincial Health card
- Canadian citizenship card (issued before February 1, 2012)
- Canadian permanent resident card
- U.S. permanent resident card (green card)
- U.S. passport card
- Indian status or a secure status card
- Nexus Card and FAST/EXPRESS Card
